itel has quietly introduced its latest budget smartphone, the itel A90 4G, into the Nigerian market. While there’s no official price tag yet, it’s likely to be priced under ₦100,000, keeping in line with the company’s typical affordability strategy.

As part of the launched offer, the itel is offering a 50% MTN data bonus, which applies to every data purchase for six months when using the phone with an MTN SIM. That alone could appeal to users who rely heavily on mobile data and want to stretch their budget.

Still Familiar, But With a Fresh Chipset

At first glance, the A90 doesn’t look too different from previous models like the itel A70 or A80. Same basic body structure, same general feel. But under the hood, there’s a more recent UniSoC Tiger T7100 chipset, which is probably the most notable upgrade here.

itel pairs this with up to 4GB of physical RAM and something it calls “Dynamic RAM,” which allows it to use storage space as extra memory—up to 12GB in total. Of course, that feature is mostly marketing talk, but the actual performance should feel a bit smoother compared to earlier A-series models.

itel a90 key features

Still Basic, But Functional Cameras

On the camera front, it’s what you’d expect from a phone in this price range: a 13MP main camera on the back with a secondary AI depth sensor, and an 8MP selfie camera up front. Video maxes out at 1080p for the rear and 720p for selfies. Nothing special, but enough for everyday casual use.

Big Battery, Still the Norm Though

Battery capacity sits at 5000mAh, with 15W charging over USB-C. That’s good to see—USB-C is becoming more common, and it’s definitely more convenient than the old microUSB. You still get a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, FM radio, a headphone jack, and Bluetooth 5.0.

As far as the software goes, the A90 runs on Android 14 (Go Edition) with itel OS 14 layered on top. Storage options range from 64GB to 256GB, with microSD support in case you need more space.

Key Specifications of itel A90

  • Display: 6.6″ HD+ IPS LCD, 90Hz
  • Processor: UniSoC Tiger T7100
  • RAM & Storage: Up to 4GB RAM + 256GB storage (expandable)
  • Rear Camera: 13MP + QVGA AI
  • Front Camera: 8MP
  • Battery: 5000mAh with 15W fast charging
  • Operating System: Android 14 (Go Edition), itel OS 14
  • Connectivity: 4G LTE, Bluetooth 5.0, USB-C, 3.5mm jack
  • Extras: Side fingerprint sensor, face unlock, FM Radio

My Simple Opinion

The itel A90 feels like an update mainly focused on the processor and USB-C port, while keeping most other specs the same as what we’ve seen in past itel phones. If you’re already using an A70 or A80, the jump might not feel massive; unless you really want the newer chip or that MTN data bonus.

It’s not flashy, not at all, and it doesn’t try to be. But for users who just need a reliable, entry-level 4G phone that’s easy to repair and maintain, the A90 will probably do the job just fine.
