Apple might just be stepping into the foldable smartphone game, and if the latest leak is anything to go by, Nigerians should start preparing their wallets, or bank loans, if that is your way of course. The rumor of the upcoming device is almost on every tech page on the internet, and today, we want to take a quick overview of hat the device will cost, IF and only if it is launched in Nigeria.

According to a trusted leaker on Weibo known as Instant Digital, the upcoming iPhone Fold is expected to cost somewhere between $2,100 and $2,300 when it launches, possibly in 2026. Now, before we break down what that might mean for the Nigerian smartphone market, let’s look at how this compares with the current market options.

How Does This Compare to Samsung’s Foldables?

To be honest, Apple is late to the foldable party. Samsung, for instance, has been leading the charge for years now. We are already talking about their upcoming Galaxy Z Fold7, and if pricing remains consistent, the device might be priced under $2000, similar to the current Fold6, which was launched beginning from $1,900.

If we do the maths, that makes Apple’s price tag about 10–15% higher, a typical Apple behavior. A slightly higher price tag is something Apple fans have come to expect. In return, you’re likely getting that premium Apple build, deep integration with iOS, and whatever new magic Apple adds to justify the extra cost.

What This Means for Nigerian Buyers

If you’re in Nigeria and you’re already familiar with how much Apple products go for here, you’ll understand that official U.S. pricing only tells half the story. For example, the iPhone 16 Pro Max (128GB) has a starting price of $1,199 in the U.S., but in Nigeria, it landed at an average price of around ₦2,100,000 due to high exchange rate.

So, using that same pricing pattern, we can estimate what the iPhone Fold might cost here.

U.S. Price (USD)Estimated Nigerian Price (₦)
$2,100₦3,900,000
$2,300₦4,300,000

So yes, if Apple officially launches the iPhone Fold in Nigeria, or even if third-party retailers import it, you should expect a price range of ₦3.9 million to ₦4.3 million on average.

So Should You Start Saving?

Honestly, if you’re a hardcore Apple fan and want to be among the first in Nigeria to own the iPhone Fold, it won’t come cheap. So whether it’s worth the estimated ₦4 million price tag or not is up to you, but expect demand to be high even at that price. Nigerians have always shown strong interest in iPhones, and the prestige that comes with owning a first-generation Apple foldable device could be irresistible for some.

Apple entering the foldable market is big news, and while the device is still over a year away, the early leaks give us a rough idea of what to expect in terms of price, both globally and here at home. Nonetheless, if the iPhone Fold lands in Nigeria, it could be one of the most expensive smartphones ever sold in the country.

So, what do you think is ₦4 million for a foldable iPhone a deal breaker or a must-have? Let us know in the comments below.
