POCO X7 Pro and C71 to Launch in Nigeria Soon

For now, neither phone has an official release date or price in Nigeria. The teasers from POCO Nigeria suggest a launch is on the horizon, but until pricing is confirmed, it’s hard to say how they’ll compete in the current local market.

Xiaomi’s sub-brand POCO appears to be preparing to launch two new devices in Nigeria; the POCO X7 Pro and the POCO C71. Both phones have already been spotted on POCO Nigeria’s official Instagram page, though there’s still no confirmed release date or local pricing as of now.

The POCO X7 Pro: Successor to the X6 Pro

The POCO X7 Pro is essentially the Redmi Turbo 4 rebranded for global markets. It will take over from the X6 Pro, which launched in Nigeria during Q4 of 2024. On paper, the X7 Pro will become POCO’s top device sold on the Nigerian soil.

The phone will come in a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh, Dolby Vision, and HDR10+ support. It even gets Gorilla Glass 7i, which is the latest display shield from Corning.

Internally, the phone is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8400 Ultra (4nm) chipset, making it 5G-ready. Storage options go up to 512GB with 12GB RAM, using UFS 4.0 for a more faster file transfer speed.

The X7 Pro also brings a 50MP main camera with OIS and 4K video support, alongside an 8MP ultrawide lens. On the front, it houses a 20MP selfie shooter capable of 1080p video recording.

Battery capacity differs slightly by region: the global model (probably the model coming to Nigeria) has a 6000mAh, while the Indian version has a 6550mAh cell. Charging is handled by 90W wired charging, with support for both PD3.0 and QC3+. There’s also reverse wired charging, useful for powering up other accessories.

As expected, this model lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack, but it makes up for that with stereo speakers, Hi-Res audio, and a more modern under-display fingerprint sensor.

The POCO C71: A New Entry-Level Device with Premium Build

The C71 will follow up on the POCO C61, and it’s essentially a global rebranding of the Redmi A5. It sits firmly in the entry-level category, with specs similar to what we have on the Redmi A5 which is already on sales in Nigeria.

It has a 6.88-inch IPS LCD display, supports 120Hz refresh rate, and runs on the Unisoc T7250 chipset. This is paired with either 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, or 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. There’s a dedicated microSD slot, which should appeal to users who still rely on expandable storage.

Camera-wise, there’s a 32MP main camera and an 8MP selfie shooter, both limited to 1080p at 30fps. The phone is powered by a 5200mAh battery with 15W wired charging.

It also runs Android 15 with HyperOS and is expected to get at least two major Android updates. As usual with the C-series, this is more of an entry-level device than a camera or gaming phone.

Availability Still Unknown

For now, neither phone has an official release date or price in Nigeria. The teasers from POCO Nigeria suggest a launch is on the horizon, but until pricing is confirmed, it’s hard to say how they’ll compete in the current local market.

For someone like me who prefers Xiaomi’s cleaner hardware-software integration, the idea of both the X7 Pro and C71 launching locally is worth watching; especially since both models already exist in other markets under the Redmi lineup. O how I wish Xiaomi is bringing the recently launched Redmi Turbo 4 Pro, instead of the rebadged vanilla Turbo 4 in the X7 Pro shell.
