The Spark 40 series includes the vanilla Spark 40, Spark 40 Pro, and the Spark 40 Pro Plus. While the three models share some common foundations, each one brings something unique to the table, and we hope to see more models, like the 5G iterations joining the list soon.

Tecno has officially unveiled the Spark 40 series, a trio of budget-friendly smartphones designed to offer a blend of essential features, improved visuals, and surprisingly varying charging options. For now, I am not completely sure if Tecno will add other model numbers to the series, but given what the company did with the Spark 30-series, you should not be surprised to see 5G-models joining the lineup a few months from now.

So for now, the Sark 40 series includes the Spark 40, the more capable Spark 40 Pro, and the fully loaded Spark 40 Pro+.

While the three models share some common foundations, each one brings something unique to the table. Whether you’re after basic daily performance, a high-refresh AMOLED display, or wireless charging on a budget, there’s a Spark 40 model for you. These options might even increase when future 5G-models join the list.

Tecno Spark 40: The Base Model of the Series

The Tecno Spark 40 is the most affordable option in the lineup and is built to deliver solid everyday performance for users who need the basics covered without spending much. It also has the smaller display of the series, featuring a 6.67-inch IPS screen with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate, and powered by the MediaTek Helio G81 chipset. This makes it suitable for casual use like social media, browsing, and light gaming.

A 50MP main camera handles general photography, and an 8MP selfie lens takes care of video calls and selfies. This year, Tecno decided to upgrade the battery on the Spark 40 from 5000mAh and 18W charging speed of the Spark 30, to a 5200mAh battery along with 45W faster charging. This is not a surprising upgrade, though, considering the fact that even cheaper smartphones like the OPPO A3X have the same 45W fast charger.

When compared to the Spark 40 Pro and the 40 Pro+ models, the Spark 40 skips out on a better AMOLED display panel, wireless charging, and the newer processors used on those models. However, it still shares the same battery size and stereo speaker setup, and it is cheaper too, starting around 140K in Nigeria.

Key Specifications (Spark 40):

  • Display: 6.67-inch IPS, 720 x 1600, 120Hz refresh rate

Tecno Spark 40 Pro: A Performance Upgrade Over the Base Model

Moving up the line, we have the Tecno Spark 40 Pro, which builds upon the base Spark 40 with a number of meaningful upgrades. Most notably, it features a larger and more vibrant 6.78-inch AMOLED display with 1 billion colors and an impressive 144Hz refresh rate. This results in a significantly smoother and more visually appealing experience.

Under the hood, the Pro variant is powered by the Helio G100, a 6nm chip that delivers better performance and energy efficiency than the G81 found in the standard model. The fingerprint sensor also moves under the display, and the selfie camera is bumped up to 13MP.

The Spark 40 Pro offers the same 50MP rear camera setup and 5200mAh battery as the base model, with 45W fast charging still on board. However, unlike the Pro+, it doesn’t support wireless charging or the newer G200 processor.

Key Specifications (Spark 40 Pro):

  • Display: 6.78-inch AMOLED, 1220 x 2712, 144Hz refresh, 1B colors
  • Processor: MediaTek Helio G100
  • RAM/Storage: 8GB + 128GB/256GB
  • Rear Camera: 50MP + QVGA AI
  • Selfie Camera: 13MP
  • Battery: 5200mAh, 45W fast charging
  • Fingerprint Sensor: Under-display (optical)
  • OS: Android 15 with HiOS 15.1
  • Audio: Stereo speakers, Hi-Res audio, 3.5mm jack
  • Build: Plastic body, IP64 splash resistance
  • Colors: Ink Black, Moon Titanium, Lake Blue, Bamboo Green

Compared to the base Spark 40, the Pro model brings a better display, faster processor, and a cleaner design with an under-display fingerprint reader. However, it still lacks wireless charging and the newest Helio G200 chipset found in the Pro+.

Tecno Spark 40 Pro+: The World First Smartphone with Helio G200 SoC

At the top of the lineup sits the Tecno Spark 40 Pro+, and it’s clear Tecno saved the best features for this model, having in mind that we may even see a better performer from a future 5G-model. This shares the same AMOLED display as the Pro variant but is the first smartphone to debut with the MediaTek Helio G200 chipset, a 4G-only SoC designed for better gaming and overall performance.

What really sets the Pro+ apart is its charging versatility. In addition to 45W wired fast charging, it supports 30W wireless charging and even 5W reverse wireless charging, letting you charge other devices like earbuds or another phone on the go.

The disappointing part, though, like the other models, it houses a 50MP main camera and a 13MP front camera. It also keeps the same battery capacity and design but upgrades connectivity and charging features for a more premium user experience.

Key Specifications (Spark 40 Pro+):

  • Display: 6.78-inch AMOLED, 1220 x 2712, 144Hz refresh, 1B colors
  • Processor: MediaTek Helio G200
  • RAM/Storage: 8GB + 128GB/256GB
  • Rear Camera: 50MP + QVGA AI
  • Selfie Camera: 13MP
  • Battery: 5200mAh, 45W wired / 30W wireless / 5W reverse wireless
  • Fingerprint Sensor: Under-display (optical)
  • OS: Android 15 with HiOS 15.1
  • Audio: Stereo speakers, Hi-Res + Hi-Res Wireless audio, 3.5mm jack
  • Build: Plastic body, IP64 splash resistance
  • Colors: Nebula Black, Aurora White, Moon Titanium, Tundra Green

Compared to the Spark 40 and 40 Pro, the Pro+ stands out with its Helio G200 chip, (remember the Helio G200?), 30W wireless charging, and reverse wireless capability. These features make it the most future-ready and versatile device in the series, awaiting to be dethroned by future 5G-models, that is if Tecno decides to go the same route it went with the Spark 30-series.

Pricing and Availability

The Tecno Spark 40 series is well-rounded and worthy upgrades over the older Spark 30-series, offering something for every type of user. Each model brings incremental improvements, making the series one of Tecno’s most balanced to date.

The models are already on sale in multiple regions. For example, the base model Spark 40 is already on sale in Nigeria starting from N140,000. Diasporan regions like Uganda already have the Pro and Pro+ models priced at 679,000 and 769,000 UGX, respectively, just as shown in the image above.
